It was close to 100 today and humid. and it was dead air too. Classic models are compromised to begin with. Today's weather made it that much more difficult. The pilots just went one as if it no biggie. Amazing!
John brought his A-game today. He was clearly the dominant flier today.
Tom Dixon was really solid too, despite model wanting to wind up on the rounds.
Danny B was typical Dan Banjock. He flew old time and then walked the plane over and flew classic back to back. He had an OTS model without flaps so the pattern was compromised but BOY, does he have those shapes down pat! When I grow up, I want to fly shapes like Dan Banjock!
Mark McHenry's Crusaider looked AMAZING in person. He flew good stuff but gave up a couple of maneuvers. Once he polishes them up, WATCH OUT!
Samantha Hines was AWESOME! Here's a kid that wins the NATS Beginner and turns around and goes all out flying most of the pattern with an Oriental. What's impressive is that Sam sees shapes. it was obvious in her flying. Few pilots at her level are capable of seeing the shapes. She does. Matt & Ryan: you have some serious competition coming up. Better shape up or Sam will take you out!
I had also a revelation today: Olympic looks great in the air. I've shied away from the model because I thought it did not look look "stunt" good. Until today. Allen Brickhaus' Olympic looked REALLY GOOD on the lines! If you dismissed Olympic as "not cool", I suggest you take a nother look. The model will present well to the judges.
