1/2A Twister(it flies!)
« on: March 16, 2006, 06:14:02 PM »
Took my 1/2A Twister out this afternoon for a test flight.  Flew great! I didn't have  very much line tension but that may be an impression because I have not flown 1/2A for  about  40 years.  I think I had about 50' of line out and on the upwind side it felt a little loose.  I changed props from a 6-3 to a 6-4 and that seemed to make a big difference and I was able to do some loops and wingovers.  When the tank runs out on the Black Widow the plane glides and lands like a feather.

It blew 30 and gusted 45 here in Oregon today, so I bet 20 foot lines would have been more appropriate.  I didn't even know it was possible to fly a Black Widow on that long of lines.  Congratulations on the success of your new plan.

Shorten your lines to 42 foot and see the difference.  Maybe even try 35.  Here in Tuscon at the VSC, was in the 70's and mild breezes.  Watched a young man flying an ARF Smoothie who I beleive they said was 12 years old flying the AMA pattern like a pro.  I think they said his first name was Mike.  He is also a very courteous young man and will go far.  I did check his head size and told him if it started getting too big we will take him down a notch.
