When you thin carpenter glue, how much do you thin it?  I'm talking about for construction of model wings and such.

I want to get good glue penetration, and have a good (strong) glue joint.

                        Thanks

I haven't heard of anyone thinning it. Titebond (type 1) is fine as it comes out of the bottle.

I thin Titebond Wood Glue with a few drops of water.  I thin enough to let me apply it w/  a syringe (no needle).  It wicks nicely into the joint and cures.

Play around with some experiments and you will see the viscosity you like.

Hope this is helpful

I thin titebond when laminating wood.  4 parts glue to 1 part water ... it spreads evenly that way.

I also thin Titebond for some applications. You are in the ballpark with 10% water, no more than 20% max or you might start to weaken its bonding strength.

If laminating with Titebond works for you...so be it.  However I would not recommend laminating with it as it usually take an Eon to dry inside large areas and results in serious warps!  Believe me I know!

I flew last Saturday and the Sunday before that.  Weather is looking good for this coming Sunday again.  Have to take advantage of any decent days that come along this time of year.  Me and at least two other local flyers will be at the NOLA field Sunday starting around 2pm, in case you wanna come down for a visit.

I double glue with thinned Tightbond. I thin it just a little, till it has a little run to it. I paint that on and let it almost dry. It penetrates the wood very well. Then re glue with full strength Tightbond. The second application of glue re wets the first. I get some really good and strong joints this way.

I am now using less epoxy and less CA glue. Saves $$ and maybe a bit of wight.
