I will tell you exactly WHY they (might) do that..

A few reasons :

1: Its difficult enough to be on top of this event even when everything is perfect.... its just too damn hard, so it makes no difference to these guys. No-one is seen as a threat; just fresh potential challengers. That crew love nothing more than fresh challenges, keeps everyone raising the bar.

2: There is no greater satsifaction that helping someone else acheive goals, once you have had success yourself.

3: I have only met 2 Top tier Stunt fliers who would not offer assistance to anyone else..I've most of the worlds top guys.

4: NO-ONE I repeat NO-ONE wants to win a contest becasue someone who COULD have outflown them couldnt put their best foot forward due to mechanical or technical issues. We all want to win fair and square in the air , whats the best you can do, whats the best I can do..

Imagine if Dave Fitz was leading the Nats by 5 points going into the final flight -and was having engine issues ( Wouldnt happen but hypotetically ) I can guarentee the guy who was in 2nd place would do anything in his power to render assistance.... Pretty much all top Stunt guys are like that.

Well the ones we dub so called "elitist "

Enjoy - look forward to the inflight reports.

Of course you know what a woman is... no-one needs to know you have those magazines.

Glad to hear that Matt,  also hope you realize they cost more than model planes and cars. LL~ LL~

Larry, I seen the word elitest used and I used to be in awe of the well known competitiors.   But, with age and getting to know them, I come to realize they are people just like the rest of us.  I was humbled when a young man at the NATS one year wanted my autograph because my pic was in the magazine.   Yes, I signed the page and thanked him.

I am also glad I am not an appearance judge at the NATS or any contest.   H^^

Dave.

The RO Jett runs great, the plane needs work.
Thanks again Brett. I hope you let me buy you lunch next time we get together.

The prep was done with Certified clear dope. Filler coats were Certified clear with zinc sterate. Fillets are Sig Epoxo-lite.
Colors were shot with Sig dope and the final clear coats were Certified clear.
After sitting a couple of weeks for the dope to gas off and shrink, it was then color sanded with 1500 and then 2000 paper.
Final rub was with 3M Finesse-it II Finishing Material 05928.
Two coats of Mothers Carnubara Paste Wax and then sealed up with Mothers Hand Glaze.
From the first coats brushed on, to the final rub took about four months.
Wow, an all dope job.  Now I am even more impressed.
4 months,  any idea of how many hours ?
Fantastic finishing job... H^^

Looking great Larry - when you get it figured out I'd sure like to know your engine setup details...may save me a lot of time setting up my Ro-Jett powered, soon to be flown latest project. And yes, Dave, Brett, Ted, etc. are certainly "Elite" but in no way "Elitist". 8)

Exactly as Brett posted above, except I am using Powermaster RO Jett blend. I'm not sure of its make up but the motor seems to like it just fine.
I will add that at 10,000 rpm the plane flew a tad slow but the motor was very happy at that RPM. I will try a 4.0 pitch next, as I want the motor to run at that RPM.

Again, really gorgeous bird Larry and congrats on the maiden flight. I am sure you will get her sorted out.

It always made me cringe when I heard the "elitest" remarks but after so many years it just cracks me up! Back when a PA61 on pipe was a new thang, David and Brett helped me sort things out, at the Nats, when they both had their own best interests to attend to. I was always over or under primed and David went over to the grass and showed me his routine as well as turning me onto his set-up for the motor ( which worked flawlessly). Brett came down to my room that same night and showed me his tried and true method for a header seal with a full demo and install on my bird. Hardly elitest in any way shape or form. Cripes the countless hours of written word Brett and Ted and many others have spent on this forum and others giving sage advice (over a decades worth) should be counted as priceless info for those with the sense to listen and or read. What hooey! LL~

H^^ to all and good luck as I sit out yet another season.
