Well another has left us - Stan Haugarth
« on: October 13, 2009, 09:28:15 AM »
Got the e-mail from Dale Gleason of the passing of Stan Hagaurth on the 9th of Oct.  I thought he would post here, but, I see he hasn't.  The address for his wife is on SSW where I posted.  He was one fine gentleman in the few years I knew him.  Not having fun,  DOC Holliday

Stan was a great guy.  I really enjoyed talking with him about his take apart Nobler.  He will be greatly missed.

I hate to hear this. Stan was a great guy; always pleasant and a just all around
nice guy.

I got the email from Dale last night.

Stan was always nice to be with. Our prayers are for him and for Mary to have the strength to go on without him.

Rusty Brown is sitting behind Stan in the picture Elwyn posted. (above this post)

Sadly, we won't see either of them again at the Tulsa September contest .

I first met Stan at the Southwesterns in Dallas about 21 years ago. He was a great guy, and loved Old Time Stunt. He always had a new airplane that He had built.

I always called him "Stan th' Man."  Mary, Stan's wife, asked Linda about informing the Stunt Community. I didn't send the notifications,  I really wasn't up to it, to be quite honest....

Guys like Stan and Rusty, not a contentious bone in their bodies, great acts to emulate.

Some may not remember Stan too well, but anyone who ever saw his "wind check" during a flight will never forget it. We've got a picture of Stan "testing the air", we'll try to dig it up and post it net week.

Edit: I tried to find a picture, no luck. Suffice it to say Stan carried a rubber "squeeze ball" syringe with baby powder in it. Two or three times per flight he would send a puff of white "smoke" out confirm the wind direction. I saw him caught up in a vortex of white "smoke" at the VSC once.   dg

Elwyn,

Thank you so much for posting those pictures.  Stan was a wonderful man with a rich modeling history.  Some of my fondest modeling memories are of fellowshiping with Stan at contest in Dist. 8.  His stories were so rich with humor, history, and knowledge.  I will miss him greatly!!!

I was lucky enough to meet Stan at the MSC. I got to talk with him a few times that weekend, he was a very nice guy.

I think this was his plane.
