We lost another this morning. Jim Carpenter is gone
« on: January 21, 2014, 09:12:14 AM »
After a long trying time my friend and ex business partner Jim Carpenter died at 4:00 AM today.  For those that never met him he was one of the most giving persons I have ever met. His knowledge of model engines was truly singular, and his life with his beloved control line hobby was outstanding.  His long time companion Carol was with him as he passed away today and her strength in the final days of Jim's life was remarkable.
There will be no funeral or wake and no flowers.  Carol has requested that if you wish to remember Jim to give something to your favorite charity in his name. Farewell my long time friend, tight lines.

That is sad to hear in away Joe, but we know he is no longer suffering.   Now how are you doing as I know what it was like when I lost a new found flying partner.

Sorry to hear this Joe.

We were just talking about his Yankee Nipper design at our flying field. Kreth flew it yesterday.

Our condolences to the friends and family.

Very sad. I never met him in person but we spoke on the phone a few times. He was very helpful when I started Speed Limit combat. I wish I could have met him.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Jim helped me with many, many things a few years back when I was returning to combat (SL) after a 30 year layoff. He sent lots of free extra parts for the Nippers I was building, mailed several construction videos and combat videos for me to watch, and spoke at great length over the phone answering the many questions that I had. Both my sons learned to fly CL on the Ukey 35s that he and Joe Just kitted. I was fortunate enough to meet Jim when he passed through Nashville on his way to Tulsa one summer. Old Rusty Lines was a true gentleman and I'll miss him very much.

I am very sorry to hear this, Joe.  We have lost too many recently, I hope this doesn't continue.

My prayers for you and Jim's family and friends.

God bless you Jim Carpenter.

I had known Jim for over 30 yrs. but got together with him the last 20. He is the reason that I came back to CL SLC. He built Yankee Nippers and I would ask " Why are you building so many. You got plenty now? And he answered:

" For you...!"
I could not resist and I came back and when I bought engines and his kits, he would not take the planes or engines back. If he had the only shirt left on his back and you needed to be warm, he would give it to you.

When his wife Carol called me, I cried with her for a few moments. He won the F2D at the NATS in Chicopee, MA but he never mentioned it. Very humble person about anything that he accomplished on do it well.
Here are some photos of my flying buddy and his wife Carol.

Thanks for the photos Ralph.  I miss going to his shop just to learn something new.  He was my friend and teacher and a great guy. He flys in a better place now. I,m a little lost for words .

Carol and Jim Carpenter came to Tulsa to visit the Gluedobbers several years ago. They came by the Flying field and visited for a while, and then dropped by our house and visited Ruby and I. They were a great couple and interesting to talk to.

I'm sad that Jim is gone.

In the words of my Cherokee ancestors, Jim was a valuable man.

This is Carol, I can't thank you all enough for your great support, he was not only the love of my life but also my very best friend.  He helped people with engines and the building of planes and at the end of the day he would say "I hope I was of some help".  Jim, you were of more help than words can say, I think my fondest memory will be of him flying his combat plane in the figure 8 pattern over his head while laying on the ground and seeing him laugh.  In fact, I think he's doing that now!  Again, many thanks to all!
