A very nice tribute.. to a man who who was a "true" modeler.. exploring the limits of OT design and never cared that much about winning...  to be yourself in this sport is hard to do sometimes with all the "stars" that influence the designs we choose "to win"... Rusty remained true to his heart.

One day we are here and the next we are gone... how will you leave your "mark" ???

Thank You De.. for you contributions..

Jim

My wife ran off a copy of that picture of the trophy so we can look at it and remember Rusty.  Many thanks De.  Is there any way we can help defray your costs in making that thing De?

Beautiful work; the dog is so appropriate. I know Rusty must be smiling about it.

He was truly a fine man, to know him was to like him.

Thank you, De, and God bless you for honoring our friend with this trophy.

That is the most beautiful trophy I have ever seen and is most fitting for such a grand man. I hope those who win this award will be kind and take special care when it is in their possession.

Thank you De for being such a caring man and doing this for Rusty. My only wish would be that he could see it just once so he would know how we all felt about him. I hope the good lord allows him even just a glimpse of all the love everyone has for him.

Sincerely, JoAnn Keville

De Hill is another of those gentlemen that is beyond compare.  I first met Rusty at the early City Park contests in KCK.  Even let him take my wife site seeing with their group in Chicago during the 70 Glenview NATS.  Also after he was on his own it was him and Sugar Babe.  I beleive there was maybe three or four during his time here on this planet.

Thanks go to De for coming up with this.  DOC Holliday

Thank you all! I appreciate your kind thoughts and compliments.  The trophy will be awarded to an Old Time stunt Flyer; Larry Scarinzi and I will pick out the first recipient. Next year, Larry, I, and the first year recipient will pick out the second year recipient.. (etc., etc.)

Jo Ann Keville mentioned that she wished that Rusty could have seen the award. Actually, I think he did! When I was picking out the Sandcast Fox .35, I had one that was not the best one I own; it had a few flaws, and I thought about using it. Rusty immediately appeared in my mind's eye and said "Aw, go ahead and use it, it's just for me", and then he smiled. Needless to say, the best Sandcast Fox I owned is on the award. I used a Sandcast Fox because Rusty liked them and had around 40 of them. (Forty!)  The prop is an original Topflight 10-6 with the early "Top" decals on either blade. The tank is a cut down Froom, and the Motor Mount is a Super Cyke item.

I had to order the walnut bases from the internet because I couldn't find a trophy shop in Tulsa that would order them for me. It took two seperate bases to make the Award. At present, I am building the carrying case for it.

Thank you all again for your kindnesses.

De Hill
