Monday we lost our fine club president and friend, Carl Allendorf, to a sudden bout with cancer. We all enjoyed Carl's unconventional, but grass-roots approach to the hobby. Carl never met a derelict model he didn't like, and many strays followed him home to be re-animated and fly, sometimes for years more. Seldom beautiful, they nonetheless brought enjoyment to many. His club-business discipline far exceeded his on-the-field prep, but he was always entertaining and entertained. A great guy with a silent life off the field, he was the source of countless ideas and activities. Quiet and reserved, he was remembered at his funeral mass yesterday for sharing and feeding the poor. The priest said that Carl was the surest of all to find a reward for a life well lived. "Whenever he heard of a child in need, he was there." We never knew much about Carl's "other" life, but as the man said, Carl wasn't one of those who announced his philanthropy. That was nice to hear. RIP, Carl.
