George Lewis passed away this week.
« on: November 18, 2009, 08:23:59 AM »
George was a leader in the modeling community. Based in Royal Oak, he was active at the club, local, state, and national level.

He passed away in East China Township, Michigan at age 80. He had been Personal Director of the General Motors Technical Center in Warren.

When I met George he was active in Control Line scale and racing. Later life he flew more and more Free Flight and Indoor Scale. At the peak of his competative era he travelled to Taft for F1 team trials.

This is one rare photo of George in circa 1968 in the CL role.   He put together a Cloudbusters air show team using Sig biplanes powered by throttled 40's. They would get 2, 3, or 4 up at time ans sometimes even tied on streamers and flew combat.   They broke up a few, but laughed it off and patched 'em up.

Best guess: the photo was from the 1968 Willow Run Air Show.
