How to remove cylinder liner ?
« on: October 06, 2007, 12:09:25 PM »
Hi ,

I know this has been asked before , but I'm having difficulty removing a liner from a ST G21/.35 ...

The liner is seated properly in the crankcase , but when you look in the exhaust port , the liner and cast case ports are flush .
This poses the problem of trying to use a popsicle stick , or flat copper bar and the piston to raise the liner from the crankcase .
I have used an ultrasonic cleaner , with 170 deg F heat , to no avail , so now I have been soaking the assembly in a product called "Aerokroil" penetrating solution (good stuff) .
My last option is to try and tap it out from the bottom using a brass drift .

Any ideas ?

Thanks :)

Rob,

Try it from the inside with a brass washer or Popsicle stick.  Sometimes you can manipulate the end of a tooth brush or similar to pry from the inside through the back cover.  If you haven't done so already heating the case with a heat gun may help.

Good luck.   :)

Rob  The  sleeves  are  pressed in, you must use heat the case to remove the sleeve, I hold the case with a vise grip pliers and heat the case, then push the sleeve out from the bottom with a stick, grab the top of the  sleeve  with a rag or gloved hand and just lift it out
