What will remove old castor oil from an engine?
« on: April 07, 2015, 06:43:18 PM »
      Hi All:

I need to clean some engines that have old castor oil 4 decades, on and in them.  What will remove this varnish?  How about paint stripper, oven cleaner or?????

                                                                                  Tia,

                                                                                 Frank McCune

Berrymans  Carb cleaner in the gallon dip bucket, or antifreeze in a crock pot will do the trick

Whatever you do, do not use anything with ammonia in it. It will turn the engine black.........don't ask me how I know.  ::)

Crock pot is best, IMHO. (Not so humble.)  LL~ LL~ LL~

No caustic chemicals!  Crock pot with plain old green Prestone anti-freeze is the gold standard. It's as close to a miracle cure as I have seen in my 40+years.

Sounds simple but remember to remove any plastic parts & o-rings & gaskets before the crock pot - the antifreeze will destroy them.
