Who makes piston rings?
« on: November 07, 2015, 10:27:41 AM »
     Hello All:

Now that Mr. Frank Bowman has retired and stopped making piston rings, where may I have rings made for my model airplane engines? Did somebody take over his business?

                                                                                                                                Tia,

                                                                                                                                Frank McCune

     Hi Bob:

I was procrastinating about resurrecting  some old McCoy .19 and .29 engines back to their former glory.  I have some old "new" McCoy engine, rear intake Sportsman?, engines that I was hoping to get running just for old times sake. I think that these engines dated about 1948-49. I would really enjoy hearing them run.  Placed in a period correct OTS plane, they would be that cat's pajamas!

I have had some of these engines that are "new" but the rings are so poorly fitted, I can not get the engines to run.  A McCoy .098 really broke my heart as a youth!

                                                                                                                                             Take care,

                                                                                                                                             Frank McCune

Hi Frank, contact Frank Bowman!  He has a reputation for making the best after market rings.  I am pretty sure he is in the Vendor's Corner.  He often goes by "chips a lot".

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
