Breaking in a Fox .35 ABC Custom by GMA
« on: February 18, 2015, 03:43:00 PM »
I Have a question concerning breaking in a 40th anniversary Fox .35 ABC built by George M Aldrich.
I have had this engine for a number of years and just decided that It would work well on a Nobler.
I normaly run 29% all castor, 10% nitro in all my iron/steel plain bushed engines. and 22%, 10% nitro in all my ball bearing engines.
With the plain bearing and ABC combo, will the 29%, 10% nitro suffice?

TIA, Phil.

You will do much better using 25% castor/synthetic mix, either 50% or 25% synth  oil, you can use as high as 29% but use synthetic mix oil, even though 25% is best for the chrome setups

Thanks, Randy, I guess that treating it like any other plain bearing ABC engine would be OK.
I suppose that 22% oil and 10% nitro would do the job.
I have used it in serveral other ABC, ABN, and etc. enginers with good results.

Some use that low of oil, but If it was mine I would use the 25% with half synthetic, that way you still have enough to lube, and  help carry out the heat. You will be putting a little extra stress on the engine with the ABC setup, putting out a tad bit more power, so you don't want to skimp on the oil. break it in with lots of 2 cycle/4 cycle, It should last you a very long time.
