Two Speed Fox .59 Set Up
« on: May 30, 2007, 09:03:50 AM »
OK;

    I put this in the "Carrier" Section figuring someone would know? I have just gotten a Fox .59 Two Speed engine. I basicly know how the system works now I want to know what I need for components, Mechanical Shut Off etc. Is it a 3 line system? Someone out there has got to have set one of these up once, it is you that I am looking for. I want to bring this engine back to life. I want to know the entire set-up with all that is needed. Somebody help me PLEASE?

        If I find another one I will letyouknow? I wish I could say I run in to them all the time, but thatjust don't happen.

Gentlemen;

       I can remember the 50's flying and I was only 8 years old in 1954. Everything was a "Secret" then. If you had a winning combination it was yours, not to be shared even with your closest friend. This is "2007", even "Viet Nam" is declassified. Fox produced its first "Two Speed Engine" in 1953, it was the "Split Case .19". Then in 1954 they produced 5 "Two Speed Engines", a.19 a .25, a.29, a .35, and the one I am talking about, the .59. Then again in 1955 there was a .29 and a .35. Then again in 1957 there was a .19 and .25 version. That is 10 versions with "Two Speeds" in the 50's. Surely someone out there used one for something? I really would like to resurect this engine.

           At your mercy   LOL

You need a tank with two feed lines, one to each spraybar. Then you need a way to control whether you get fuel through the second line. A "pinch-off" controlled by the 3rd line will do fine, and with practice (lots), you can actually achieve a crude speed control, rather than just Hi-Lo speed.

You do initial adjustment for the needles on the bench, so that you get a true Hi-Lo speed variance without killing the engine on Lo-speed. When you decide that you'd rather have a Fox .59 with a variable-speed carb, let me know and we can work out a swap - I have a bunch.

Good luck,

      NOPE you sure can't, my son is bringing his "Digital" Camera home today, I will try to post a picture or this "Rare Bear". Except for initials on the Crankcase portside (ARGH) this one is MECA excellent. All I had to do is brush it off after soaking it in fuel for 15 minutes. Lou Crane suggested that Fox may have had instructions for this set-up, if so These Are What I Am After. I will keep you informed. I can go to Fox or my good friends Boll M. or Marvin Denny. One of them will know I'm sure.

I will keep you in mind if I ever see another one of these
