Comparing OS LA 25 to OS 35S
« on: November 18, 2012, 05:25:02 PM »
How does the new LA25 compare to the old OS 35S powerwise?  I am finishing up a Coyote, 550 sq/in and have a choice of LA 25, LA 46, Brodak 40, EVO 36, ST46, ST51 Evo 60 or OS 35S for power.  I have never run the 25 before.  I have heard they do well on the Primary Force, which I believe is similar to the Coyote in area.

The Brodak .40 would probably be my choice, simply because I wouldn't consider putting one into an inverted engine installation. They're ok on a side mount, but a PITA inverted, esp. if ambient is on the cool side. The .35S will bolt in...not sure about shaft length difference, but if you make it for the longer one, you can figure out a way to make the shorter one work.  H^^ Steve

Hi Dick,

I have one of the newer OS LA .25 engines I have been using on a super clown. Although the engine was great when the plane was new, it now has trouble hauling the much heavier plane (crashed and repaired many times) around than does my fox 35. I would say that may just be because the fox will turn a 10-6 where the la 25 will perform best with a 9-4, 9-5 or 10-4 prop. I would say the LA 25 is best with planes under 470 sq/in.

I also have a few OS MAX 35s engines and B40s which I really like. I have a max 35s in my oriental. However, if it were my plane, I would go with Steve's advice and use the Brodak 40. Its a nice light engine which has more than enough power for that plane, IMHO.

Let us know how the coyote does and I'd love to see pictures! ;D

Cheers,

-Daniel

The current LA25 is *plenty* of poop for a Coyote.
