tank height for P.A.40
« on: August 06, 2006, 03:06:18 PM »
I'm retrofitting a new P.A.40 in a used plane and notice that the fuel nipple is aprox  3/4 " above the mounts.  What height should I set the Uniflow vent above the mounts  for the first flights.   Keith Varley

Hi Keith,

I hope Randy jumps in here!

If we're talking the "regular PA 40 then this is what we have done.

We set the tank on the mounts (which gives an 1/8th" higher tank when it's on its wheels) for the first flights and adjust from there.  So far the need to move the tank on the PAs has been minimal.  This has been our starting point for the 40, 51, and 61.

For the PA 40 UL, all bets are of since I do not have one yet.  But I would still start there unless Randy told me otherwise.

Hi Keith

Typical is  both engine  and  1 inch tank  will sit on th e beams, you  will not  know  untill  you fly it  and  check  you may have  to shim  th e tank slightly, the  location of the pickup  and  uniflow tube inside the  tank will  have  an effect on this

Regards
Randy

I did this with my PA 40 UL. Ended up with the pickup tube dead center on the NVA. Sure like the engine.
