ST V60 Muffler recomendations
« on: December 26, 2023, 06:06:26 AM »
Folks;

Got a newish ST V60 engine ( I did replace the bearings with a set from Boca Bearing),
and am wondering what is being used for a good muffler.
It is required to be the strap type mounting. (no mounting ears on the engine)

Thanks in advance.

Stan Frady, on FB, could probably make you a tongue muffler for it.

Hi all!
In my opinion one of the best solutions is to find a original Merco muffler, perfect fit and light weight. Remove the internal baffles and tou are ready to go!! Some decades ago this setup was used in competition, so.....

Kind regards form Spain and Happy 2024!!

Manuel.

Carl,
I got a message back from Stan Frady on FB, he said he has tongue mufflers for the tab-less ST 60. He is in the PAMPA group on FB.

Best,   DennisT

Some of these versions of the St.60 had a hole in a boss that is in the middle of the exhaust. Tom Lay used to make an adapter for that engine that attached to the exhaust by that screw in the middle and fit snug around the perimeter. it had muffler ears located on the adapter that matched typical ST.60, .51 and .46 dimensions. I had Jim Lee make a few spares for me. You might check with Jim to see if he still has his noes and drawings for that. When I use mine, I use the screw as usual but apply some JB-Weld around the edges to stabilize and re-enforce the joint.
 Type at you later,
 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Some Double Star mufflers fit on the early ST 60 , firmly . May need a light scrape in the flange . ( one do one dont )

WITH the piston at TDC , on the 60 , you look at the outer lower edges . If theres a six foot gap there , the tounge Muffler gives blowback , and they run better
( more Grunt etc ) on a TUBE MUFFLER  std theyre 3/4 or 7/8 bore , maybe four or  five inch chamber , 3/8 outlet tube . the sausage ST one is pretty similar .

Ya wanna look after it . https://stunthanger.com/smf/engine-set-up-tips/tom-lay-super-tigre-v60-break-in/msg612285/#msg612285
