Looking for some advice on how to set up my ST 60 after a long absence from the hobby. It was built many years ago by Tom Lay but has never been run. It's going to be mounted in an old Mirage I beamer that I built many, many years ago and never flew. I'm guessing the finished weight to be somewhere in the mid 50 ounce range.

I know that prop technology has come a long way since the old Rev Up days and I would like a good starting point for my motor. 2 blade, 3 blade, carbon, wood, I have no clue what to buy.

What plug works best for these motors?

I would like to find a nice quiet tube muffler. I've only found the ones that Randy Smith offers, they're beautiful, but how do they sound? I really prefer a quiet, powerful sound over a loud, growling sound if that makes any sense (hey, it's early in the morning, my brain's not awake yet). So far, my searches haven't turned up any others, just thought I'd ask if there were others that I could choose from.

My last question would be about line length. What do you recommend for a starting point? I'm thinking maybe 63-65 feet, but again, clueless.

As someone who used ST60 engines for quite a few years I can tell you that about all you have to do with one of Tom's engines is to mount it and fly. As to plugs and props you should probably get hold of some Thunderbolt "Big Bore" plugs although I used K&B 1L plugs for years in the Tiger. As to props the options are pretty wide. With a model that small and in the mid 50 oz range you will have no lack of power. I'd start with a prop in the 13 in. range for a 2 blade and a 12 in. in a 3 blade configuration. Anywhere in the 5 to 6 in. pitch range. Randy makes a very nice muffler for the Tiger and it will probably produce the sound you are looking for. Oh forgot, for fuel I'd use something like SIG Champion fuel with 10% nitro. Powermaster GMA 10% would also be a good choice. Both these fuels use 50/50, castor/synthetic lube.
I'd stay away from all castor fuel as it has a tendancy to make rings stick in their groove.

I have several of Randy's tube mufflers and I state they are VERY quiet and almost a purrrring sound - not loud or
harsh at all....and yes, use a fuel with 50/50 castor synthetic ( I know Tom says to use all castor but that is a
ring waiting to get stuck) -- like Alan said, Sig Champion 5% or 10% nitro.
