« on: May 08, 2006, 07:59:23 PM »
hi all  i am running a st 46 and hope to be soon using a st v60. question is what is the best type of muffler to run on these engines tongue or tube. i have heard by some that tongue mufflers cause to much heat inside these motors which can lead to the ring wearing out quicker ?. i want a muffler that gives good power is light and gives long ring life with a good engine note .thanks damien :)

Well I'm not Randy but I like the tube muffler. Each has its own advantages. He will answer your question.

Hi Damein

I alway prefer to use a  good  tube  muffler  over a  tongue, The main reason I would use a tongue muffler is  strickly a  weight issue.  other than that  I would recomend a good tube  muffler.
The  tube mufflers most alway have a deeper  smoother  sound, and have more expansion area than a tongue does.
Both have their use and place  but I really think  you would be better  served using a tube muffler on the  ST60

Regards
Randy

I bought tube mufflers for my ST46 & ST51 & ST60 from Randy Smith (Aero Products)
and I state that they are ABSOLUTELY the best mufflers I have ever used. The fit is
PERFECT and the quality is SUPERB and the tone is BEAUTIFUL and QUIET. Buy them
from him, you won't be disappointed.

The tube does seem to be the best choice!  y1
So far, I have always followed Randy Smith's recommendations to the letter.  When he talks, I listen!  ;D

As an aside, I have always followed the engine builder's recommendations for what ever engine I am using.  Most of my engines are from Randy or Tom Lay.  Both have been perfect in their recommendations, and I have had the same experiences with Byron Barker.

The Aero Products and Scott Dinger tube mufflers are the very best out there, IMHO.
