Retro Discovery .61

Anybody have experience with this engine?  I have yet to run mine.  Hope to do it soon after my surgery.

Info on test running, fuel, prop, etc. etc. will be most welcome.

Hi Hoyt,

    I have one , but have as yet to run it I had a post on Stuka Stunt I believe about this. 0% Nitro ,synthetic fine, uses 4.5-5 oz fuel ,
use supplied prop. My props are called Discovery universal 13.4 x5.9.
I will try to find the post with all the answers to this q.

Hi Hoyt,  can you let me know how it goes. I was wanting one so I E mailed Kaz Minato to ask him about them. He basically told me to try the Stalker because it was much more user friendly.

Hello all.
Kaz sells Stalkers.
Discoveris I´ve seen running in Spain are low rev, flat torque, great engines, I´ve Stalker and Discoveries and really are very similar engines.
Stalker 46 is an ABC copy of Tigre 46, I´ve run both, and definitely, Tigre wins.

Is that the Stalker you used to whip our rear ends at Huntersville?  %^ %^

Hi Ron,  The Stalker I had in that plane was the 55 RE. I dont have alot of experience running alot of different engines so I cant compare, but I will say this. The Stalkers are the most user friendly engines I have ever run. Easy to set up and plenty of power, but most importantly they run consistant which is what I like.                                                                                                                                                                            Regards,  Jim

I would like to outline my system for the Discovery 60
I'm currently flying a yatzenco shark with Discovery 60

1) FAI fuel no nitro
2) 13.4x5.9 wood yatzenco prop
3) K+B RC long plug
4) 018 67 foot line center of plane to center of handle
5) 7200 to 7500 RPM
6) Kaz Minato handle

I strongly recommend that you start with the FAI fuel. the Retro is your clasic 4-2-4 engine it comes on going up hill and turns off comming down hill.

My mistake was using nitro fuel at the beginning of my Retro experience the use of nitro made needle setting very difficult and the motor vibrated. I broke two needle valves in the process and the motor ran in a 2-2 with out that classic run.

if you live at sea level to 500 feet elevation and the model is not draggy zero nitro fuel will work for you add nitro up to 5% above 500 feet and the motor will give you equal power.

My model started life at 55oz. it now weighs 57 oz. do to final painting and some epoxy front end repairs

I competed with this model in Huntersville NC. and was rewarded with a second place finish .7 point from first.
