P/A 40 - P/A 40 merlin
« on: June 26, 2006, 07:38:23 AM »
Does any one know the diffrence between the old P/A 40 pipe version and the new P/A 40 merlin beside size?  Can the old  pipe version be run with a header muffler instead of pipe? ~>

Hi Larry,

Randy tells me that all the RE PAs can be be run on the header muffler with no problems.  I am sure he will jump in if I am wrong.  y1

I just got a header muffler for my PA 51RE to be used in my next classic ship!

Hey, Bill, I have a PA 51 RE with header muffler ready to go, what size ship are you looking at for yours?  Noel Drindak's been running header mufflers on his RE PA engines for years, with excellent motor runs!  Finally convinced me to give it  a try...I'm a slow learner.

HI Larry

The PA 40 is the same size case and mount diminsions as the 51,61.65.
They can all be  interchanged, with each other. And  ALL PA engines  run very well on a  pipe or muffler.
The new  Merlin series PA ultra lite  40 is a much smaller size case  and will go into many classic airplanes as  well as  modern stunt ships.
It is more the size of a   35 engine.
Weigh about the same as  an  Aero Tiger  or  Magnum 32 36  (8.)
The PA 40 Ultra lite has the same  mounts as an older  ST  35  40   46, but is longer on the nose. this allows  you to make a very sleek cowl  without  using  a  prop shaft extention

Regards
Randy
