OS Max 46 VR DF Engine
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:14:18 PM »
Hi guys,
Has anyone tried this engine for stunt?? I believe its a speed engine?? Can it be tamed to run stunt?? Is the timing completely different. They sure look like great engines, maybe should let the R/C guys play with this one. The engine seems to build like a brick ----house??? Can this engine be reworked to run stunt like the OS Max 46 VF Engine??? I appreciate any input.

Thank You
Gary

I cant really answer your question about using it for stunt, but I do know that it's not a speed motor. The DF means its a ducted fan motor. Probably spins some serious RPM.

Hi Clint,
You're correct, it is a ducted fan motor, just wondering if it can be tamed to run on a pipe system. I guess I'll find out, I have one in my dirty little paws and was just trying to get some input before I go to all the trouble to set her up to find out she won't run correctly??? I was just thinking that she seems to be a stronger motor than the VF, so maybe it'll give me a little extra for the strega or larger ships of this nature??? I have the header and the pipe for her, so nothing lost or nothing gained. As soon as this darn cancer will let me play I'll set her up on a test stand and see if I can get the proper pipe length and all of the rest set up. She's brand new, so I guess I'll have to break her in. If she doesn't work out, I guess I can always give her to a R/C Guy????
Thanks for your input Clint

On the other hand.... I've seen  McCoy 60 speed engine used for stunt.  Prop it for 18K and as long as it runs steady it pulls just fine.  And that's all an engine is supposed to do.

HI Gary,

Maybe Randy will chime in on this one, but I know the timing is different, and finding the right prop might be a problem.

As to your cancer, I hope you get through your treatments fine.  Mine are over and I am looking forward, greatly, to recovery.  Still too soon to feel any better yet.  You can make it, so hang tough! ;D

According to the OS web site you are looking at an engine that spins out to 25 000rpm.

Fairly decent weight though at about 13 ozs.

I think, like the others, the liner is going to need work.

Hi Bill,
I was hoping that Randy would take a minute and let me know his two cents worth on this engine. If ya buy one they can cost a few dollars?? But if it won't work for what we do, its not worth nothing??? Randy, Randy, where are you, help! help! I really would appreciate Randy's input, Good or Bad??? Doesn't matter just need the truth.

Thank You
Gary

Hi Gary
Put your money to work on a better engine, you can still find 46VFs that are front intake and the standard RC versions that have the mild timing and better head for stunt. or you could go with a more modern engine, but you would find that much more user friendly than a VFDF...even they can be made to work,,ljust loads of trouble to do so
