OS Man LA 46 Rear Needle Valve
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:02:31 PM »
Gentlemen,

As a silver haired modeler, I normally use a 1/2 extension on my engines.  This gives my un-nimble fingers a little distance to the prop while adjusting the needle valve.

Recently purchase two OS Max LA 46 engines with the rear needle valve.

What are the problems with the rear needle valves?

Has anyone successful used the rear needle valves?

Thanks for your inputs.

I am re entering the hobby after an accident involving a prop in 1984, The reason I bought my os 25 las is the remote valve, I have had no problems with the valve at all. it is far easier to use then the system on my fox 35 .My only advice is post about break in, I didn't break mine in correctly and am having a couple problems. Instruction manual said 9/6 prop, I was informed a 10/4 would have been a better choice, hope this helped. Brent

Hi You can try them for your self, I have never liked the run I get with them, There is not the same response from 4-2 with a rear needle..some are much worse than others, many people have said the same. You may be OK with a wet 2 run

I haven't used the rear NVA on a 46 but I had one on an FP 10 and could not seal the fuel line connections.

I tried several different fuel tube sizes and clips but still there were air bubbles in the fuel line after the NVA. I fitted the factory front NVA and the engine run is sweet as.

By all means try the rear NVA set up, the spigot sizes may be different or maybe I was just unlucky.

Good luck, Geoff.

I think the rear N.V. is the greatest invention since Viagra.  I've never stuck my fingers in a prop, and these engines are improving my odds.
