Old Fuel Disposal?
« on: October 10, 2006, 10:22:08 AM »
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to dispose of old fuel?

I have some old (20+ years) 4-cycle fuel that I still have from my days on the dark side (R/C).

Thanks,
Thanks,

It makes good weed killer or helps in cleaning engines...

Use it to break in new engines, if you are worried about the oil content just add some Castor.  If it will run at all it is good enough for break in as you can control the situtation and don't care how it preforms in flight.

I inherited two gallons of Tower Hobbies 4 stroke fuel, found out it was 15% nitro 18% oil, add a little castor and it would be fine for breaking in engines.

In our area we have recycle centers that will take old paint, motor oil, stale gasoline, etc.

Pour a SMALL amount into a metal can, burn it off.  Repeat until done.  You need to do this outside, of course, preferably on a calm day with no nosy neighbors watching.

Well, considering that Halloween has become popular here in the UK over the last few years (never heard of it when I was kid!), may I suggest you join us Brits by building a bonfire, getting some fireworks, chuck the fuel on the bonfire and "celebrate" Guy Fawkes night on November 5th!!

Gives you an idea.....

Be safe......

I've put small amounts ( 1/2 - 1  pint to 1 gallon) in the gas I use in the lawn mower. It doesn't seem to hurt it, besides a small amount of extra smoke, and you get a bit of that flying field smell while trudging across the yard.

If the containers have not been opened the fuel should be good.  I had some K&B fuel that was left over from racing at NATS in the metal cans.  It was still good.  Later,  DOC Holliday

Howard Rush burns his old fuel in his Lawn Boy lawnmower. It runs a really strong 4-2-4 and sounds bitchin'. It so impressed the local ladies at the last NW Skyraider's contest, that they asked him to pose with them for a picture!  **) Steve
