Magnum 36 like muffler pressure or not?
« on: March 12, 2007, 06:41:34 PM »
As a follow-up to the helpful suggestions by PTG on the Magnum 36, here are some more questions. I have a new-style square-head 36XLS with ST NVA and delrin venturi, mounted in a Vector 40. Will use stock muffler, not a tuned pipe. Tank will be rectangular plastic clunk. So, (1) Does this engine run best on ram air vent, or does it like muffler pressure with the stock (or aftermarket tube) muffler? (2) Is the .250-.270 venturi suggested by Phil also a proper size for non-pipe use? I plan to use an 11x4.5 TT Cyclone or a 3-blade carbon in the same range.

Do not plan to use an XYZ prop. Plan to START with an XYZ prop! Let the engine run where it wants to. Where it is HAPPY. THEN adjust the prop to get YOUR happy lap times!

Why plan to run pressure? Experience has taught that the more complications you throw in the pot , the more problems you'll experience. I am running 5 Magnum Pro's  and TT .36's, on pipe and off, and some Aero Tigers. None need pressure! Usually with vents about .275 - .285. 5% nitro, 22% 50/50. Cut down bolly 12 X 4's to 11.25 X 3.75 - 4.0.

These are great! enjoy the simplicity!  Z@@ZZZ
