K&B 40 [ 8011 ] : Stunt Friendly ?

Hi fellas and greetings from S.W.France.

Is there anyone who has experience with a K & B 40 please ?
I've recently acquired one in great condition , converted to C/L .

It's VERY noisy !

Any suggestions to make it more 'stunt' friendly guys ? I've tried all I know without success ..... !!

Sorry guys , I made an error when I said this was an 8011 Series.

The old box that the engine came in says it's a  4011 Series.

I've no experience at all of K&B so any information would be appreciated.

Robin, i have one of those engines in my box for future use. I have only test run it once a long time back, so i cant comment on how well it runs. I do remember reading that there are some people who use them for stunt so i'm sure its doable.

I have flown a K&B 4011 in both Old Time and modern stunt.  It is a favorite engine.  It is a more powerful engine than the Tower 40 (also a favorite).  I run in a rich two stroke.  I used an APC 11 x 5 prop, Sig champion 10% nitro, 20% oil 50/50 synthetic/castor. Fox 2-volt long plug.  Stock muffler with muffler pressure to a uniflow tank.

I also have one that runs very well. I bought it so I could turn the cylinder 180 degrees to get the exhaust on the outside of the circle. I took the big head gasket out and put in a thinner one and also made the venturi ~ .270" by putting a piece of 5/16 brass tube in it. Good engines.

There pics on Mecoa site of which is which. 3 models .

Some have beefyer guts than the series 71 Ive got in a

57 Oz ship. 11 x 5 prop .P-head blew 8 plugs.

P is apparently the FAI no nitro pylon race head.

So a late ABC should easily exceed 160 mph ,

As its a much touger development of a series.

Just glared at one on ebay. 8011 is basically series 71 with muffler lugs .
other two current series have SRII schneurle? based front end, rod, etc.

61 ,- 64,- 67,- 70,- and 71 TORPEDO .

THAT WOULD. also suitable for STUNT.

(Just dont get a lean run , after dusk, with a dark red aeroplane . . . )
