Head Gasket?
« on: November 21, 2006, 05:26:57 AM »
I removed the cyllinder head on a 40th anniversary Fox 35. There was no head gasket. Is that ok? or should it have one.

There really should be a head gasket. Because the Fox gasket is dead-soft aluminum, it sometimes isn't obvious that there is one. Sometimes I find it necessary to use a straight pin to "pick at" the edge of the gasket from one of the bolt holes in the head.

Do this gently, or have a spare gasket on hand.

The Fox gaskets are so soft that you don't really have to worry about damaging them, unless you really tear notches in it or scrunch it up into a ball.  Flatten it out a bit and the head will squish it right down when it is reinstalled.
