Fox Eagle .60 & .74
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:11:30 PM »
I've ended up with one of these in a box of stuff and I'm not sure if it's a .60 or a .74. Short of tearing it down to measure it are there any external details differentiating the two engines?

Do (or can you) post a photo?

I have a couple Fox Eagles that I have modified (Marvin Miller did the work, he's my neighbor, sort of) and I call them the "Reeves Spl's".  I saw what Charlie Reeves had done to them and decided to do the same. He was running one in his Stuntwagon. They weigh about the same as a ST 60 and preform about the same, as far as I can tell.........

Later, Jerry

I'll post a pic as soon as I get  a chance. This thing is pretty much an aluminum brick and I think it might be a good choice for powering a log splitter.

I think he is talking about the 60 or 74 developed from the 120 twin, not the eagle 1 motor form the early 70's.  I think they are pretty much the same on the outside, do not know of any way to tell them apart.

Look in the exhaust stack, the .60 ha three port windows and the .74 has four port windows.  They are very powerful engines and  just need the latest head button in order to be tamed a bit.
I have both, CL versions, and have had great results with them.

The Fox twin was a marriage of 2 Fox Eagle 3 engines. The Eagle 3 had to be one of the ugliest 2 cycle 60's ever made. To see one is to remember it forever. The eagle 4 was more conventional. Both the  3 and 4 were very powerful for the displacement. Doubtful that these are the same weight as a ST60 at 12 oz and the Foxes running around 19/20 oz. The Eagle one was light enough to probably match the ST60's weight.  I think they used a modified Eagle one case for the recent C/L 60 that never caught on with the C/L community.

No, the later Fox 60 stunt was an entirely new case. One piece as opposed to two. At 13.2 ounces it was still no lightweight but lighter than the Eagle, much better looking also. 8)

The Eagle one was a one piece case with those completely useless muffler points on the case. They got rid of the vertical muffler mounts  and put a more modern head on but it otherwise looked pretty much the same as the E1

Pic of the latest Stunt 60 version. Should have said "An entirely different case". than the other Eagle's pictured. You can see where the vertical muffler mounts were blocked off. Good info. 8)

You're probably right Dennis. I really don't know except that it is an "Eagle".  ::)

Sure works good. Kind of glad I didn't sell it. I'm looking forward to using it a contest. I want to beat Carter with NO appearance points!  LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

It's a Fox Eagle 4.  .74 displacement and you can get a CL venture and NVA from Fox for it. Lots of power. if ou need it.

Wayne,

I had one of those (74's) on an RC stunt trainer (that was given to me) and it had "BRUTE" power.  %^@  I flew it for a couple months and then got rid of it. To many airplanes in the hanger..........  Almost can't get the car in!  LL~ LL~ LL~

You do not need to tear it down, the 74 has a 1 inch bore, so you can just remove the head and measure the bore, if it is 1 inch, its a 74 . The 60 is about 10th inch smaller bore I think somewhere around .905

Thanks Randy, I popped the head off and it is a 1" bore. I guess that makes this one a .74.

Thanks for the info guys! H^^

You could have just counted the port windows and seen that it has four, making it a .74. The .60 just has three.
