Fox 15 setup

Seasons greetings

I have just 'won' this motor on the Bay and know little about it.

Anyone know:

a. When it was manufactured.
b. Where I might get hold of some starting instructions (NV settings etc).

Maurice, It looks like what you have is a 1970s Fox 15X....a fine little engine and will give good service using the right fuel (5% nitro, 29% castor and the balance methanol) It is important to use the right prop as well, a 8X4 is a pretty good size for this engine, 7X6 also works well.....Four turns on the needle will generaly get it running..

Anyone know where I can source the ingredients to make fuel for this motor in the UK?

Or better still, buy it ready made off the shelf?

I have a gallon of retail 15% synthethic mix in stock. Will this kill a Fox 15X  ?

15% synthetic will definatly kill it, how ever, if you can find castor oil, you can add enough castor to bring the total oil content to 29% and get by with that mixture. Regards, Phil Bare

Fellas,

I have been unsuccessful in finding suitable fuel off the shelf.

I have a gallon of 'Cool Power 10%', the mix of which is not detailed on the side of the container.

What percentage of castor oil do I need to add to ensure that the motor (as above) doesn't over heat/burn up?

HI Maurice

You need to add at least 13 ounces of castor to the gallon of Cool Power before you use this fuel. It is mixed at the plant that makes it by weight, not volume .
I had one of these on a Shark15 many years ago, It gave me plenty of enjoyment and flying time.

Damned Fool thing to suggest.  Though it is my understanding that there are quite a few more such fools in California, where all the flakes go to be together.  According to GMA, these were "sweet" little engines, of which he was supposed to be particularly fond of the "steel fin" model, which had less power, but would perform a credible classic 4-2-4 run according to him.

Hi Ray,

You will have to get use to John, he puts down Foxes all the time.  I guess he finally found us.........  Of his first 6 posts, 2 were anti Fox.  And he's from the *City of Brotherly Love*! (Philly Fliers) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
