Engine parts needed
« on: August 28, 2007, 07:28:51 PM »
I have what appears to be an almost new OS Max III .35 U/C engine, but need a few parts.  I need the following:     Prop drive washer, thrust washer (if needed), prop washer, screw and gasket set.  Can anyone help me, PLEASE?

Richard

Hi Richard,

Check EBAY, especially the "Buy it Now!" listings, as these are usually on-line EBAY stores. This guy, "Robair", has a particularly large selection of OS Max parts:

Good luck,

[quote I need the following:     Prop drive washer, thrust washer (if needed), prop washer, Richard [/quote]

Having recently settled (after many years) that when Americans talk of drive washers and thrust washers, they mean what the English call the Prop Driver, I now find Richard needing (?) both these for the same engine. So I'm back to square 1!

Can anyone finally settle for me what is meant by drive washer and thrust washer please?

Ya, the "drive washer" is the big thing with teeth or serrations in the front of the motor and the "thrust washer" is the little sometimes wavy thing that goes between the drive washer and engine. Or maybe the thrust washer is the little aluminum spacer that is on the crank of some ST's  ;D

To further clarify, a thrust washer is the thin steel washer that is used between the drive washer and the crancase on a plain bushing motor. It's main function is to protect the case and also to prevent the crankshaft from hitting the backplate when using an electric starter. What most users forget is that it needs to be replaced on a as needed basis if you use a starter, if you handstart then it is mainly a spacer.
