Enya 45
« on: April 07, 2007, 12:17:24 PM »
Boy am I having fun digging in my old junk. Found an Enya 45 with no venturi or NVA. Seems OK. Is it worth using and if it is what venturi size and NVA do I want.  Do I remember right or did this come with a carb and venturi both in the box when new. Probably been 35 yrs.   rog

Billy G   It says right here it is a 6001. If I remember right my uncle came in one night somewhat intoxicated and said he had wrecked his car. Turned out he had hit the the head body mans car at the shop I worked at after school. Silence comes at a price and mine was a new Enya 45. Called uncle today (that I haven't visited with for many years) and we had a good laugh.  rog

Roger;

  I will check for you later this evening, if I don't have them I have a couple of other sources. I will PM you when I find out. 6001 is not that uncommon.

Way back when I used an Enya 45 plain bearing motor, lapped piston with good success..   Then got a BB 45 with dual rings.  Both were very reliable and had good power.  The ringed motor was relatively interchangeable with a ST 46, and seemed to have similiar power.  Actually I always felt that the Enya had more power than the ST, but the ST had a smoother power output...
The Plain bearing motor wore out a pair of Gee Bee's and is still an excellant runner!  The venturi I used was a piece of TV antenna....  Cheap people, cheap ways...  Gotta improvise, now I have a lathe!   ;D

Roger, the Enya .45 Model 6001 is a winner! Good power and reliable 4-2-4 power.

Maybe .270 with the OS NV (.136" O.D.) and about .290  with the ST NV (.156 O.D.)

I have been using the Enya 45 6001 dual BB for a year now and I can share my experience with it.

I use a .295 Venturi and the ST 60 NVA fits perfectly. I use Brunie AirFilter which restrict the airflow and simulates a smaller Venturi. On hot and humid days I remove it. 12x6 TF prop with top thined out, more at the tips. 15% Nitro fuel and launch about 8200rpm. The best muffler I found for it is the old Dubro tongue muffler with the spring inside. It is heavy but I needed extra weight on my model so it was good thing. With this setup it runs very steady like a 4S engine.

I have tried to use the original Enya muffler but it didn't work well at all. Used a new Enya muffler that came in with the SS50 and was even worse. Had a custom tongue muffler made and it run great, but with the Dubro muffler it got even better. I think the trick is to have the inside wall of the muffler to match exactly the engine exhaust.

I can make it to do a 4-2-4 using an APC 11x7 and launch at 7600rpm but it didn't pull my Pathfinder with authority. I never tried an 11x8 perhaps that will work better for a 4-2-4 setup.

From what I know the only difference between the Enya 45 6001 and the ST G21 46 is the combustion chamber on the head. The Enya 45 6002 has a similar head of the ST 46 and it will fit perfectly on the 45 6001. I have a brand new 45 6002 head for sale if you want to try one.

Using the higher compression head the 45 6001  will do a 4-2-4 at a higher rpm and I guess will improve power as well.

I have tried the high compression head but I was still using the original muffler. The engine was not running very steady and it flame out after I went inverted :(.  And didn't persue flying more with it. Now that I have a better muffler for it I'll try the 45 6002 head again and see how it works.

Enya has a much better metallurgy then ST. So you have a great engine in your hands.

Pete Peterson used Enya 45 on his Vohm and It is a great 2-4 break engine. I think he was using a larger and more open muffler than th one that came with engine. I have a brand new one that I ran on the bench an boy is the needle seting on the bench ever steady. Can't wait to find a plane for it. The trouble is I am in Love with the LA 46. n~
