Clarence Lee K&B61

Just got a K&B61, it came with a letter from Clarence Lee saying it had a modified PDP . Just wondering if this thing  would make a good stunt eng. I like the way ST60's grunt and growl. If this K&B could run similar, that would be great if not then I would save it  for a carrier project as it has a throttle type carb on it now. Also this thing has an eight digit engraved number under the left mounting lug and the unit looks new and never run.

There was a review of the K&B 61 by Tom Dixon in Stunt news some years ago.  He said it was timed exactly the same as an St 60 and was an American made ST 60 one ounce heavier.  Designed for those of us who build tail heavy airplanes, I suppose. ;D  I've seen a Veco 61, which is essentially the same engine, fly a stunt airplane very well.

PDP=Perry Directional Porting

Best I recall, a method of improving fuel charge delivery for engines which did not/do not have Schnerle porting.

I think some K&B and some HP engines had PDP.

"PDP" stands for "Perry Directional Porting". Besides K&B, some ST's, Como's, and HB's used it. Probably others, like Irvine. It was a way to boost power of baffled piston engines as Schneurle ported engines came into production.  ~^ Steve

Sounds like I will have to  make a venturi for it and give it a try . If any of you have a contact number or email address for Clarence Lee ,I would like to try to contact him . I was told he still does custom engines.

He is the designer of the Veco 61 (now more or less the K&B 61), and the engine columnist for the late RCM magazine. He advertises in the classified section of Model Aviation. Here is his address
