Brodak Nobler Tank
« on: March 03, 2011, 03:50:39 PM »
I am putting Brodak's Nobler Tank,  that the tubes come out of the bottom in two planes - a Nobler and a Smoothie.

How can I strengthen the place where the tubes come out?

Which of the two tubes is the fill tube, which the overflow?

Thanks

I found one answer to this question on another post.  The place around the place where the fill and over flow tubes exit the tank can be reinforced with JB weld or more solder.  I plan to make a support for the tubes near the top where they are filled, probably out of 1/8 or 1/16 ply.

I think that I remember that the lower tube is the fill tube and the upper one is the overflow.

Hi actually I found a reply to another similar question I asked about this tank from Pete Cunha.

"Fill it through the top (uniflow tube). Bottom tube is the overflow. During flight it is normally capped off."

I had it backwards in my last post.  Anyway,  my questions are answered.  Some elbow grease with "search" turned up the answer.

Thanks guys!

Allen: I have been flying a Fox 35 powered Brodak Nobler for over ten years using a very simple tank setup.

I use a 3 1/2 ounce tank with one uniflow vent and one standard vent at the forward upper inboard corner of the tank.
I fill it through the uniflow and when fuel comes out the standard vent, I cap off the uniflow vent.
The standard vent is angled forward and has a restricter with an .030 hole.

I have flow it both ways, uniflow and standard; the standard gives the best runs.

Hi Bob,

I have found, kinda by accident, that it is easier for me to get a good run from a "stock" Fox .35 using a standard vent tank.  Any ideas why?  It (tank) also doesn't seem to need to be raised as much with standard venting to equalize the run upright/inverted.  I have no clue........
