Brodak .049
« on: June 17, 2009, 03:35:48 PM »
Can anyone tell me either pro or con if they have had any experience with the Brodak .049 engine?  I want to put one on a pod that will power my sailplane.  Or does anyone have any other suggestions for .049 engines and where I may find them.

Thank you

Mike

ME TOO! I'm in the  market for a gently used one, .049 or .061, standard with muffler.

The ones I have run great on the bench and are easy starting.  Haven't got them in the air yet.  Will soon tho.  DOC Holliday

I have one on a Jr. Flight Streak. I had a problem at first wiht poor fuel draw. I removed the spray bar and found a machining burr in the hole. I used a small wire to flex it a few times until it broke off then flushed it out. The engine runs fine now and is fairly easy starting cold but floods easily when warm or hot. I let it coll a little between flights and it starts fine. It does not have as mush power as the high performance Cox engins but is a very nice sport flier.

If you are concerned about the power, you might consider the 061 version. I'm guessing that externally it is about the same as the 049, and for your application there really isn't any reason to stick with an "official" 1/2A engine.

At least with the Norvel 049/061 pair, the 061 made a lot more power and was a bit friendlier in applications than the 049 where you didn't need to worry about official displacement.

Much has been written in the 1/2 A forum about this engine.  Do a search.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!
