We were plagued with engine problems at the field yesterday, mostly on the RC side but with some strangeness in the C/L circle. My OS 25FP and an OS 55AX would just stop, either taxiing out or in the air. We couldn't get a flight lasting the full tank. The CL engines lasted the tank but, as with the RC engines, required a lot of turns to respond to the needle. We applied all the standard fixes; changing plus, fuel etc. to no avail.
It was a very humid day. You could hear the "frying egg" sound coming from the C/L 46LA. (Duke Fox described that sound in one of his instruction sheets, attributing it to preignition caused by high humidity) My CL 40LA was surging. My other experience with an engine just stopping was my outboard motor. The problem was water in the fuel. Once I began managing the water in the tank the problem went away. So was it the humidity? The engines involved were working well earlier in the week. We've decided to just wait it out for better flying conditions and see if things go back to normal.
Oh, and we don't need to hear from you electric guys!
