A peek inside a well broken in engine
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:50:23 PM »
There really isn't any point to these except I was having fun taking some pics of my Double Star 60s insides while I was adding another head shim.  This is after 498 flights, all on Powermaster 10 and 15% nitro 18% oil fuel.  Much cleaner than my Fox 35s ever were. y1

The burn pattern is interesting, the piston is where you would think it would be at the exhaust side . the head is what I would think is the rear of the engine ? Maybe some baffling to cool the rear of the engine.

The head is totally in the airstream as it is, though, if you think about it.  Not only the open front end, but the head sticks out below the level of the fuselage.  I don't think you could get much more air over it no matter how you tried.
At least it doesn't have burn patterns in the intake ports like my FPs used to!

Getting any rain down there yet?
