  HAS ANYONE TRIED ,REPLACING A PISTON/CYL FROM A 40 FINNED CASE MCCOY TO A  RED HEAD   ENGIEN ANY PROFORMANCE CHANGE ,PORTING CHANGE? RUN CHARISTCIS IE 2/4BRAKE ECT? ??? ???

HI Ron,

The Testor's Series 21 40 sleeve doesn't fit into the RH 40 case with out machine work.  I tried. :(  John Wright has done it and it will run great if you can do the machining work.

The 29, however, will interchange with no problem.  I use one on a Super Clown in OTS.  It actually runs better!  Out standing engine with an outstanding 4-2 break and a touch more power..  I used the "black" head reapinted red. :)

Haven't tried a .19 or .35, yet.

Hi Steve,
Actually if you machine the case and put in the Series 21 Dykes ringed cylinder and piston, it works as good or better than the original!  John Wright does this to his sometimes.
The 29 in my Super Clown is a "mutant" Red Head.  Does a 4-2 better than ANY of the stock ones I've had and is a drop in replacement.

The 35 is a drop in ,Back in the day ,we had several set up to run slow Rat.
They were sleepers ,really cranked well, good HP and speed up until the cranks broke.
This was right before we developed the reworked OS 40 for use as a slow Rat motor.

I have a Series 21 35, I may just have to locate a suitable Lightning Bolt case Red Head and give it a try.  Anybody out there have a Lightning Bolt Case Red Head 35 they want to get rid of cheap?

Lightning Bolt cased Red Heads had the reputation of having better QA and tolerance.  The case is a little stronger also.

Hi Louis,
With the piston/cyl. swap, a good condition chrome case will probably be just fine.  The issues with McCoys always seemed to be the piston materials and fit. 
It's a shame that the 40 isn't a drop in swap!  They are my favorite (along with the Veco 35) for "Classic" stunt engines.  More power than the Fox 35, but as easy to 4-2.  They just have their own "sound".  ;D
