More planes for COX
« on: November 22, 2009, 09:23:23 AM »
We currently have 4 control line models for the Cox 290 Sure Start engines, PT-19, EIII Eindecker, Morane-Saulnier Type N, ME 262 Storm Bird. Each of these profile models are designed to be a thrilling sight in combat. Full size plans, complete hardware, Wheels and control handle and lines are all included. Coming soon will be our first Radio Controlled model. This plane will use the Cox 290 engine and a 2 to 3 channel radio. The kit will include a complete hardware package, wheels, full size plans and instructions. The "Miss World's Fair" was designed by two of the worlds greatest designers, Walt Musciano and Howard McEntree. With a 30" wing span and very stable flight characteristics this will make a great beginners kit. Thanks to Cox we can begin to regrow the hobby.

Larry, that sounds really cool and I think that the Miss World's Fair was the nicest of the four R/C planes in the series. I like the Shoestring next best.
These were originally kitted for single channel escapements and engine sizes from .020 to .024 or a hot .010.
Of course these days hardly anyone flies single channel and the newbies seem to want even more than just R/E.

Scientific also had a 42 " span for 049 and single channel (kit 177) called the Miss America.

Robert,
I always liked the Miss America but we were not able to get the plans for it. Later next year we will be adding the Shoestring, Piper Cub and the 185 along with two larger planes.
With the new mini servos the 2 and 3 channels weigh the same as some of the single channels these planes were designed for and there is plenty of room. The Cox 290 engine will slightly over power these models but not as much as you might think and we are equalizing the weight with thicker tail sections. I talked to Walt about this and he agreed plus so far test have proved promissing.
The kits will be all laser cut with all the required hardware and full size plans.

The COX 290 is there Sure Start motor. It does not have an attached tank but it has a Choke tube on the back. See pictures.

Well, Bill, I think that we are the only company currently making control line models designed spicifically for that engine. Our reports from Texas are full of praise for these engines. As am matter of fact they are the ones who asked us to design some planes for them and that is how Cox found us.
Thanks for you input

Great news Larry. It looks sharp and from a glance just like the original. I am sure you made a few changes but they don't seem to stick out like a sore thumb. Good job!
This plane will be marketed by Cox International, correct?
What is the all up weight of this one as seen here?
Do you have any clue when this might be available?

This plane is due in from the laser cutter on or before the 7th of January and will be available through Cox International about the 15th. The planes will be available through all authorized Black Hawk Models Dealers from Febuary 1st.
As to the weight ... I do not know but it is VERY light and would work well on an electric motor set up. We set this one up for the COX mini servo radio and their sure start engine. 2 to 3 channels and that will weigh less than the original single channel radios that it was original designed for.
This will be a great beginners model and a great park flier. We also include instructions for a FREE FLIGHT version.

Full size plans
7 page instructions
all hardware including hinges, wheels, collars, and servo mounting tray.
Push rods included
Silk span covering
The price will be between $50.00 and $60.00

I have the Baby Ringmaster and Beginners Ringmaster laser cut kits for the Surestart engine. These also are set-up for the Cox engines with the integral tanks. Those are the BabeBee, Golden Bee, and Black Widow.
