Maiden flight of the Voodoo

We snuck in one flight with my Voodoo before the rain hit us. The engine I am using is an ebay special, clean 1962 Fox .36 engine but really didn't know how well it would run. After switching to a hotter McCoy plug, 25% nitro with all castor oil, running off a bladder tank, it fired up. Set the needle plenty rich for the first run and after two minutes in flight the engine loosened up and picked up speed a good pace. However after making my first large loop I started feeling static around the handle and could hear some popping. I moved my hand to a different position and started flying level and low. Maybe the Voodoo was on me! n~ Once out of fuel the plane had a very nice glide and floated along very nicely. We got every thing loaded up in the Jeep before the rain. We will try it again in a couple of weeks. :)  Richard

I built a few in early 60's about 50 years ago. Last contest in Tucson there were several in speed limit and looked good.  Still a fun plane but can not compete with modern type ship. I still have a 25 year old one hanging that gets into ait once in awhile. Dan

Nice voodo Richard my first fast combat plane was a voodo burnt up 5 k&b stallions 35s on the plane i think we could get 6 or 7 runs out of 1 motor on back plate pressure with missile mist fuel had a blast with that plane. Did you build form kit or planes I'm looking for plans.

brad, you can get plans thru AMA. Action laserworks has a short kit for the Super Satan if your interested .

The VooDoo is a great sport combat plane with quite a variety of engines......I like the Fox .36BB or the Super Tigre .35 Combat but the Johnson Combat Special and the Johnson .36BB are excellent.  They even fly well with a Fox .35 stunt or McCoy .35 Redhead.  I have 4 built and flyable plus 6 Goldberg Double VooDoo kits (12 planes) in the shop.  They were purchased from a hobby shop going out of business in 1987 for $6.95 each.  Anyway, Barry Baxter has the plans for $13.00.  See the site below:

Thank you Brad. I built this one from plans that I bought off ebay that included full size pattern sheets. Over the years I have built eight or nine Voodoos from kits but this is the best flying one so far. Barry Baxter has the best selection of combat plans of anyone on the internet. Most of them are CAD and very accurate. The most time consuming part was shapping the leading edge from some L.E. stock. Richard

Can't beleive I only had two VooDoo's during my combat days.   My favorite was the Big Iron by Berryman.   H^^

When I was in school early 60's local H/S sold them to us at 20% off as we were members of club. $2.40 our cost/ bought small tube Ambroid .30 and a Perfect bellcrank for $.25 and still got change from $3.00 .
