Gotcha 460 (update)
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:26:07 PM »
Here's a pic of my Gotcha 460 it's not glued yet and I still have to cut the wing tips and bladder compartment but it's coming along. Power is a Mk 4. This is my first fast combat ship I've seen them fly but have never flown one, I'm very excited I can't wait to see what it is like to fly at 100+ mph!  <=  #^

I pulled the Big Iron off the hook that used to belong to Meriwether.  It had the Johnson Combat Special with crankcase pressure.  Once I got a little used to the speed it was timed at about 90+ mph on 10% Sig fuel.  Be ready on the launch as they excelerate very quickly.    It had been awhile since I had flown that fast and started to get dizzy.  That is when the loops and eights became handy as well as inverted flight.  Melvin even flew it a couple of times.  Great for those windy evenings or even days.

Get busy Marvin!
We got a lead built up on you. I have 3 Fast ready to go.

Doc I gotta sit or lay down to finish a bladder!

Dwayne
Looking good! Your going to have fun.
On the launch dont give it any up elevator.
Have helper point it straight ahead nose up 20% or so and just drop it and then take a step or 2 to the right.
It will fly.

Set the needle to where if you pinch ( quickly)the fuel line the engine gains fair amount of rpm.
A little rich is better to start than being lean.

Tip weight? side thrust?
60ft X .018 lines with small handle.

Thanks Dave
How much tip weight would you recomend, also the wing pannels are equal lenghths so I'm thinking about cutting an inch off the outboard, I'm placing the lead outs 1 inch behind the spar so I don't think I should need any side thrust does this sound right?
Oh and how long should I make the bladder tube?
Thank you

Do it per the plan.  You already have the engine and fuel out board of the center of the plane.  Just be on your toes that first flight.

I use a 7" bladder tube made from a T-8 fluorescent tube guard for my Yankee Nippers. You can get the tube guards at hardware stores (4 foot lengths). It's about 1 1/4 inch diameter, and I use a 7" long piece of tube. This works for OS 32sx and Magnum 32xl for speed limit combat with a 5 minute match duration. If your plans say to use a little bigger, I would trust
that size instead.

It's finished final weight is 22.5 oz. I left the wings equal lengths but added 1/2 oz. of tip weight it balances just in front of the spar so I'm hoping it's a bit nose heavy for my first flights. Weather up here in snow land isn't to bad right now so I'm going to the local park to fire up the Mk 4 to see if it still runs.
Thanks for all the reply's.  y1 #^
