3 MM soft tubing for fuel shutoff ???
« on: April 17, 2009, 08:38:10 AM »
Does anybody know the source and/or proper name of the used in fuel shutoffs?

It's a lot smaller and softer than typical fuel lines available in the hobby business.

What I see is has a wall thickness of about 1 MM, I.D. of 1 MM, O.D. 3 MM.  The core is white or clear or amber and it has an outer coating of yellow or purple.  By my best reckoning that would be about .118" OD.  It feels like a shore(A) of 40, but I don't have access to a durameter.

I'm trying to rehab an old shutoff on which the tube has worn out.  The tubing needs to be a lot thinner and softer than regular fuel line for these pinchers to work, especally on F2D's which are half the mass of a Fast.

This should fix you up, Paul:  http://www.4fishin.com/surgical_tubing.htm?gclid=CKyS397g-ZkCFRo-awodMk4oLQ - - The 3/32" I.D. sounds like what you're after.

Also, I'm certain that the Combat Suppliers all sell the stuff - - Mel Schuette (MBS Model Supply), Larry Driskill (Kittingittogether.com), George Cleveland, etc., etc.

Thanks for the advice.

I ordered some specimons from both GRS and 4Fishin'.

Will report findings.

I have small samples of black, yellow, and purple tube in hand, but as yet I hadn't been able to backtrack the sources

Phil Cartier is a good possible source.  Him or Larry Driskill.

MBS Model Supply has the tubing mentioned.  I think I sold it to you at the NATS one year.  DOC Holliday

Phil Cartier and Jeff Rein both have the yellow stuff.  It's good.  Jeff has red stuff that may be better.  The jacketed latex is physical therapy stuff.  Brand name is probably Thera-Band.

Tom Siegler.

Are you looking for bladder tubing or line that is soft enough for a pinch off?

He has some real soft stuff he used for fuel line.  He got it from from some obscure source.  It is black.   It works a lot better than the windsheild wiper tubing I am using.

He also has the red jacked stuff for bladders and the real thin black stuff for  low pressure 1/2a bladders.  He is going to an F2d contest in germany next week so get a hold of him now.

Problem solved!  Mission accomplished.

I got a nice batch of red spagetti (and some other needs) from George Cleveland of GRS.

Three day delivery.

I got my samples from  www.4fishin.com.

The 3/32" ID (ST-332-5) is OK for current shutoffs.

The 1/8" ID (ST-18-5) is too big for current shutoffs, but might work well in a bigger-bore shutoof and would be easirer to handle.

3/8" ID (ST-38-5) is too big for any modeling application, including bladders. Maybe a big slingshot or an exercise device.
