Looks like the Jack Sheeks F-5-F Skyrocket just made it to the short list of builds! (Thanks, Brother Dennis!)

I am thinking 2 OS 35S. Should do really well! I don't know about the flying capablities, but I don't recall Jack ever publishing a *BAD* flying model.

Just need to contact Capt.Curt at PAMPA products to get the article out of FM!

Do any of you have any ideas about the following?

I have three engine choices (don't add any more!

):

Fox 35

Double Star 40

OS 35S

Which, in your opinion, would be best? Jack used Foxes in his.

Bill, my flying buddy Gordan has more twins, and time with twins than anyone I know. His Classic "Too much" used a pair of Fox .35's. It flew great with that power system.

His "Gemini" used a pair of OS .35S's. These worked well, but he now has a pair of Brodak .40's on it. This is the best yet. Your milage may vary.

I think either the OS Max-S or Fox 35S will do fine, with personal preference and finding a good pair being the determining factor.
I'm looing forward to hearing a pair of open face 35's growling inside those aluminum pots and spraying oil EVERYWHERE

Sure won't have to worry about skeeters....

I would be more than happy to use two Enya SS35S in this plane when it gets on the board. Do you have a pair you can send me,FREE OF COURSE!! ??, I have the Foxes and OS 35S's in the drawer.

Speaking of which, the cowls might be the toughtest part of the build! I haven't seen those in many moons.............

Any ideas, anyone??

I think Jack used Sterling Nieuport 17 kit cowls for the original.... And of course, everyone has a couple of those laying around

The plans call out Sterling Nieuport *28* cowls.............. Darn it, I just used the last two I had last year.....................

I was just browsing the ENYA site and they sell believe it or not......A TWIN ENGINE PLANE SET.......One normal rotation and one reversed. How cool is that. I couldn't find a .35 size but they have .25 and .30 and .45 and others. Check it out.

Well, Randy Smith did tell me that Bobby Hunt suggested using two Enya SS engines! I am just waiting on Randy to send me two free ones to test out......... yeah, right............

(actually Randy is a good buddy, but not THAT good!!

Nope on the two PA-65's, remember I think .91 is the max now. Double check rule book to make sure. DOC Holliday

Sorry but the only way you'll be able hold down two PA-65's is if you grow from Big Bear to Kodiak Bear or GRIZZLY Bear!

Actually, Dennis, you haven't met me in person!

2 PA 65s? piece of cake, even as I grow older.... (I ain't THAT old yet!)

In truth, a good friend of mine here locally is actually listed as having the "World's Strongest Grip", John Brookfield. I could peg his "hand dyno" right handed, but not quite all the way left handed...... he holds the world's record for bending 20 penny nails in one minute and things like that...... he can also snap a brand new *unbreakable* pair of Craftsman Pliers like they were match sticks, and bend horse shoes into a "S".

(I was referring to Stevie Boy needing to be on 'roids....... he's a *little* on the *small* side!

The Foxes would need NITRO ( big tanks ) or no mufflers .

Lightest would be bestest .

youll have to start looking for tea-pots or pots, alloy ones .
for the cowls . side mounted injuns save tip weight .

6 in pitch props scare pilots on take-off . so get it on video .

I vote for the Fox 35s. Especially if one has a left hand crank. I had a stand way off scale P-38 stunter with that setup. The sound was something to behold.

They were easy to start since my starter box had a power reversing switch.

You don't think I was going to try hand starting opposite rotating engines???

I have a very good Fox 35 Stunt with a reverse crank. So that option is very *doable*.

Reverse cranks are still available from Fox for most of the engine line.

Had a CW turning Fox 35 - factory shaft - in an All American Sr years ago. Upright bellcrank (pushrod outboard of pivot, elevator horn underneath) and it didn't need tipweight. ...even with that exaggerated longer inboard wing... Torque reaction on the motor mounts seemed to lift the inboard panel enough.

Back then, there was a decent choice of LH propellors... Now, I've seen "pusher" props (the gray ones, at least in 9-6 or so) that have the airfoil shaped to push when turning CCW, not pull when turning CW. Makes a difference. This may be the choke point on doing a reversed rotating pair...

The CW Fox 35 ran just about identically as my other CCW Fox 35s. The worst thing about a CCW engine is propping it. If the model is on its wheels, you have a tendency to punch the pavement... If you're using your flying hand to hit the prop, that could make a difference in how well you fly...

If you find an engine you want to use, that has an LH shaft available, I'd recommend making the change before break-in. Break-in cuts some metal and polishes fits. If you do that really well, you'll have a good engine that lasts. Changing rotation direction on an engine that was already broken-in t'other way means you'll have to cut and polish more metal to break it in - again... May not mean much, but then again, it might...
