Shark 35 - finished at last

Shark 35 from RSM kit. Power: Enya 40 XCS. Finish: Dope over silkspan. Weight: 47.5 ounces. Still some trimming out to do but flew complete pattern on third flight. Any tips from other users of this engine would be appreciated. A search shows 11x4 to 11x5 props on a 4-2-4 run seem to be the preferred setup. Best prop so far a Bolly Clubman 10.5x5 but still experimenting. 8)

Very, very nice !  Is there prop clearance for anything more than a 11" prop ?

No, 11" is the max for this setup. Next prop I will try will be a CF Bolly 3 Blade 10 1/4 x 6 1/4. Engine seems to like to run a slight 4-2-4 break in the 9000-9500 rpm range. This prop may not work but it sure looks cool! 8)

Good luck trimming her out.  I'll bet your gonna like this bird.  Very attractive scheme.  I'll stay tuned for your later flight reports.  A job well done ! That Enya is waaay better than Pirelli  LL~

Pat Johnston (the guy that drew the plans for RSM) flew his with an OS 46LA. Pretty good plane.

Very nice! I was planning a build of this model for this winter but life keeps getting in the way of execution.

It is definitely worth building and Pat did do a great job on the plans. I went with the Enya because I was impressed with the way it ran. It is the same size, weight, and mounting pattern as an AT-36 (still an option).  8)

I know people don't like to do it, but, larger wheels will give more ground clearance.   Flying off of grass most of the time I go with larger wheels than what the plans show on the planes.  By the way the Shark looks great.

Thanks Doc, the Shark actually has pretty large wheels. 2 1/4 mains, 1/ 3/4 nose and no problems at all flying off the moderately tall grass at our flying field. An 11" will be plenty of prop diameter for this engine, just have to find the right one.  8)
