I like Paul Walkers with the Cobra painted on the wing as Nr. 1, but Randy's Cobra Gurl is a very close 2nd.

Unfortunately, I lost all the pictures on my computer. I usually get a hint when a hard drive is going to puke, but this time, it was fine then it was gone. I had recently backed up my /home directory which included all my stunt stuff, but wouldn't you know, there is a DVD error and I can't retrieve them. I keep hoping I'll come up with an idea. Figures, the one time I don't do a validation check....

So, no pictures of the Cobra completed. I even lost the cool decal of the hot girl. Sigh...

yesterday.....I had to retrieve my DVD player...(for some reason....I had no sound or photos after playing a kite video on GWTW kite site
...but after talking with a nearby neighbor who works for Microsoft, he helped me "restore my window XP media Edition 2005  computer to a previous date" and UUUUUUUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAA!

I am now back in businesssssssssssssssssssss? Any chance that might work for you Randellldandle? 
Gads...he can't believe i was soooooo dumb. It took him about 3 minutes to talk me through it.

Well I came up with a paint scheme for the cobra.  I'm going to use Bill Werwage's paint scheme from his 62 Ares, but a couple small things changed around, but it is a lot like it.  For the base color, I'm going to take silver and mix green in it until I'm happy to get a silver green sort of paint.  now will white cover a silver green ok?

Oooh! Scallops. I'm stealing this trim!

Randy - If you can find another identical drive, swap the PCB's on the bottom and the drive will be fine if it's just an electronic problem. I do it all the time. The "bay" can be a source for older models...
Hope you didn't toss or abuse the drive yet...

Sorry, this is a No-Microsoft-Zone. I had a hardware failure, not a software one. The hardrive interface (in the hardrive) failed. Doesn't happen much, but it does happen. The drive was less than a year old and Seagate actually replaced it under warranty (how often does that happen?). I had back up all my stuff on 5 DVDs. 4 were fine. The 5th (that had all my stunt stuff - pictures, etc. plus some other stuff like vacation pictures) had some sort of defect and I can't retrieve most of what's on it. Usually, I do a validation check after writing a DVD, but this time I was in a hurry and, well, you know the rest.

Since this, I now have a SATA mirrored RAID setup (two Seagate 750gig drives), so this won't happen again unless the planets align and both drives fail simultaneously.

Sorry for the deviation from topic, Matt. Good luck with the Cobra. It's a very cool plane.

Well, I'm not much for cloud computing. I have a drive box with an IP address on my home network that my son uses from college to back up all his stuff. And he uses most of the capacity (around 800gigs). I suppose I should use the thing, but I never have. I was just backing up data stuff on DVDs because it was convenient. At least this time I have a different drive configuration with my /home directory on a separate partition. Should make it easier to do backups. And with a mirror raid setup, that should take care of future problems.

Not sure what the problem was. I sent the drive to Seagate and they sent me a new drive. I went to Tiger and bought another one just like the one that Seagate sent and set them up in a mirror (750gig SATA drives). So it may by that they will just refurbish the old drive and resell it. Who knows.

On the Cobra: Interestingly, that paint scheme ended up being quite odd. What you see it the pic is before clear coat. The clear had an inordinate amount of alabaster pearl in it. The effect was kinda odd when flying it in the sun at VSC. Go to do a loop and the reflection of the sun would turn the plane completely silver at certain points. So it would sort of color shift as it went through a maneuver. Don't know what the judges thought, but I found it a bit distracting. While kinda cool, I probably won't do that again.

Matt, your Cobra is freekin excellent! I dig the green/silver color. How long did it take you to go from the kit to inverted flight? I could use a few months off of work to get some of my (lack of) building frustrations satisfied. Well done Matt, see you at Brodaks on day.

It's Bill Werwage's Ares, not a Cobra.  Here is what I have done: All the ribs are on the wing, the fuselage doublers on, the stab and rudder done, that's it.  Due to a lack of space, I'm building the wing outside the body, then putting it in the fuselage.

HA! now I really feel foolish  .    I thought those pics was your plane. Still, yours will be as cool. keep us updated on your progress. It was pictures of the Cobra that made me want to get back into C/L. I had never seen such a cool looking plane before. That was a few years ago. Cant wait to build mine.

I'll post pics of how far I'm into construction for my Cobra.  The Cobra wing is already turning out better than my Ares wing.  I made up jigs, and a bunch of other stuff to try and keep this wing straight.  All the ribs are on, now I need to mount the bellcrank, and put the wingtips on, then round the leading edge and taper the trailing edge.  I think it's coming along great.

DOC, I see what you are saying that cutting the fuse like a normal stunt design could weaken it, but for fillets, we use Brodak aeropoxy lite, BH-924.  The stuff dries incredibly stiff, and it really strengthens a joint.  When my grandfather's big job went in, the canopy didn't break where it was joined at the fuselage.  The wing didn't break at the joint, and the fillet was the aeropoxy lite.  It's a bit on the heavy side, but I think it is worth it.

Edit:  Also DOC, I'm building on a little table big enough for the wing, because grandpa took the big table for the rebuild of his Big Job.  I have my Oriental Plus right now stored in their burner room, because of the lack of space we have.  We always joke around saying that we'll send grandma to Florida for a month, and when she gets back, the wall where the workshop is, would be extended 10 feet 

Thanks for not being hard on me.  Where are the pictures of the build?  Now as far as extending the wall of the shop you might reconsider it.  Don't know the size of your property or the building codes, but, I now have experience on building a shop.  I didn't realize how much stuff I had in the basement, but, codes and family wouldn't let me go any bigger.  Keep us posted on your build.  DOC Holliday
