Date for the Scarinzi 570
« on: August 12, 2013, 03:47:10 PM »
I was just playing hooky, paging through Outerzone, and ran across this:

http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=4737

Anyone know a publication date for it, and how it did in competition?

Thanks.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

From Mr. Scarinzi's bio on the MA web site: "Had two model designs made into kits – both by Consolidated Models (Art Hasselbach) – Cranbury, New Jersey. One was the Giant Killer combat, Fox .35 combat, or similar engine around 1960. The second was a full stunt model named #570 when it was introduced around 1962. It was also published in Model Airplane News magazine in December 1963 under the name of U Name It. A Name the Plane Contest was sponsored by Art Hasselbach and the name ultimately ended up as Trident.

I think the mag article I saw was way before Dec 1963.  From Dave Day's site:

U-Name-IT    54"    Scarinzi    MAN (MA)    12/62 (2/63)

I presume that MAN=Model Airplane News which was Dec 1962.  I have the mag and actually flew a variant of the U-Name It which I drew from the mag plan in April 1963.

Edit:  DEFINITELY PUBLISHED IN MAN Dec 1962

I believe several have built this model relatively recently. I saw one at Brodaks a few years ago. So if no one here has experince flying it, you might ask on SSWF.

Don't mean to bust into this thread like this but the Trident has been on my list of kits to do for quite some time now.

For several personal reasons I haven't been able to get it completed for kitting yet, but if anyone was interested I would release it as a short kit (laser cut parts only).
Thank you and God Bless

Count me as interested. I put my name on your wait list for this one years ago ...  :)

Larry's original in his basement.  He sent this pic to me years ago.
