Ty,
With all the planes you have built, why would you need instructions??? LL~

What engine for this one?

Well, I am so far along, I really don't need instructions.. But every now and then I come across a part or section that I have trouble with. Actually, this is just an oversize 59 Ares without going to a Super Ares. I have a kit of the Juno, and it is more or less a large 62 Ares.  A definite progression in Billy W's planes.

If it ever stops raining for more than two days, I might get some painting done. I have five in primer, waiting for drier days.  HB~> H^^

Hi Ty,

The '62 is, basically, a fairly enlarged '59 "looks wise".  But, there is a good bit of difference in the airfoils.  Billy could never "power" the '62 like he wanted until the Aero Tiger 36 came along and he built his dominant "new" one.

Same with the Super Ares which, to me, is not as good looking as the '59 or '62.  For the Super Ares he used a K&B 45 but was never really happy with it.  If I get around to building the "Super" it will get a T&L ST G51!

Oh, yeah, the '62 was never published.........

I have one of Brian's ABC set ups installed in one of my ST 46s.  I am waiting to see how it does.  I have heard nothing but good things about them!

As far as one in the '62 Ares, you will never want for power!

Hi Ty,

What is the size of the 62 Ares?
Area, WS, Wt?
Is an Aero Tiger .36 big enough for this plane?
Where can we get plans/instructions for it?

Like most retreads, I have a soft spot for the beautiful Ares

TIA for your help. :-)

Hi Rudy,

The plans are available from Warren Tiahrt.  Maybe Randy Smith (Aero Products), also now that I think about it!

I have never measured my plans, but I have had them out a thousand times! **)  Both my son, and I, have wanted to build one since we first saw Billy's new one.  Billy uses an Aero Tiger 36 in his, and cleaned up a few times at VSC with it.  That's THE engine he told me to use in mine.

There is one critical aspects of MOST of Billy's designs that you must adhere to.  They have to be light to really fly their best.  Billy liked a thinner airfoil back inthe dayand they just don't create the lift that the more modern "fatter" ones do.  Of course, Billy is also known as one of, if not THE, lightest builders on the planet.  It's really not that hard to build real light if you are just critical of every piece that goes into the plane.

I'll try to find my picture of Billy's '62 and post it.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like a perfect plane for my AeroTiger .36. :-)

Randy does have the plans, I will order them tomorrow.
