1957 Flying Models

 This 1957 FM magazine cover has always been one of  my favorites. The Nats that year were only 150 miles from my home I was able to go for the entire week.
 Anyone know who the North Shore MAC club was? y1
 This has the plans for the Mackey Blue Bird and the Scarinzi Jolly Flapper with ribs full size. #^

Well Ed,

I can't answer your question, but I have to say that that particular issue was one of my favorites from my late father's stash of model airplane mags.  I always liked that cover, I guess it gave the impression of places to go stuff to accomplish.  A tiny suitcase and more planes than one kid could ever hope to carry  LL~ LL~

It's not at the top of the interest list, but I liked the Bluebird too...The jolly flapper...I always wondered how it would fly %^@

Thanks Ed....1957 I graduated from Tillamook High School and flying Kenhi models...and a brand new Panther with a brand new double ported OS Max 35.
I had a little saying that always seem to cause a rukus' under the canopy that.....'LOOKOUT! SOMEONE JUST CUT THE CHEESE!"

More fights broke out that last year in Tillamook Oregon high school sport events than any school that I have ever attended. Lucky for me....I was involved in only one fight that broke out during a track meet.
Just secondsafter our 100 yrd. dash was set in the track starting blocks...THEN HELL BROKE LOOSE on the command "GET SET!" The competitior tough kid from Lincoln City in the blocks next to me...YELLED OUT LOUD! "SH*T! WHO CUT THE CHEESE?"
I was on the left side of him....and my buddy Roger James who's Daddy was the General Manager of the TILLAMOOK CHEESE factory was on the other side of him.
 Both Roger and I without even thinkin'--------- YANKED THAT STINKIN' DUMB AZZZZ' OFF OF HIS STARTING BLOCKS j1 j1...
ALL THREE OF US WE SENT PACKING TO OUR BUS RIDES  HOME.

Hummm? How the HELL did I get off on this tangent! (Blame it on the heat n' my meds? LL~ LL~ LL~

Thanks for the really nice scans...Jolly Flapper really has some sizeable elevators, huh...
That last scan of the BLUE BIRD  was truly a good lookin model for those daze-early days huh?

Good old OK cub fuel. I loved that great shoe polish smell. I ran a lot of that through an OK cub .049 back in the early days. Most of it on the ground as something always seemed to happen when my Hollow Logs got in the air. That was back when men were men, and women, well, were women. Very cool stuff guys. Thanks for posting.

I had a batch of OK Cubs in the early '50's -- .049 (original, A and B), .074, and my first "big engine" an .09 which went into an F&B (I think) hollow log P40.  Which never flew.
