I recently picked up an old Sterling Sky Shark kit. Is it legal for any current events? I would make it electric.

It's 'legal' in just about any carrier event. The only event that it would not be 'legal' is in Profile/Electric Profile. As kitted, it is shy of the 300 square inch minimum. That would probably be easy to fix - extend the span and/or add enough fixed flap to make the minimum while you build it. In any of the class 1- class 2 events, it would not get scale points, being a profile. But it would be legal to enter. Oh yeah, it wouldn't be legal in Skyray either.

Built as it comes in the box, this has been a competitive plane for .15 Carrier in the NW. Not legal for NW Sport .40 Profile.

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't built a carrier plane since 1963 and want to try it again. Mostly for fun, but I do want to be able to fly in a contest now and then. I might just scale the plans to a 300 in2 wing and build it from scratch.

From Day One we had that plane pegged as a carrier trainer that didn't fit into any event. You would be better off building any profile sport plane and setting it up for NW40 with an OS 40FP. A Super Clown for example.
