See Plane-A-Day. Nice shot of F6F Hellcat being shot off the hanger deck catapult. That had to be a rush and a bit scary.

Thanks Wayne.
I'd never seen that sort of launch.

I seen that photo too.  I thought most launches were angled towards the front of the battleships.   Had to be a nervy pilot to do that type launch.

Some of the Carriers had catapults that launched sideways from the hangar deck, not used a lot from what I have read.

Another Hellcat on Plane-A-Day. This time what may be Yorktown 2. Interesting markings especially on the cowl.
Thanks

Ty...Now, THIS was a thread!
My Dad was in the Navy, (Frogman, enlisted a month and a half after Pearl Harbor, he was on the Hornet then transferred to the Wasp (Boatswain's chair) 3 days before she went down...
He had 'kibbitzed' with 2 of the Sullivan boys, days prior.

I was born Oct. of '42.

Always love your posts...

The Sullivans were on the USS Juneau with my Uncle Walter.
