Tom Wilk has one on his CD of plans, it is a profile however. You most likely flew a full body one from a Consolidated kit back in the 50s. You will pay more than $100 for that kit today, if you can find one.   Mike

$100.00 would be a good price for that kit.  Never seen one actually built or even flown.

I have two in my stash. Hollow log fusalage, small wing. One was supposed to have won the NATS back in the 50s. Those were the days when if you could get on the deck you were the winner #^
Anyway they are collecter kits now days and I'll never build them. It might be fun to clone one and see what it could do.  Mike

AMA Plans Service has the Consolidated Ryan XF2R-1 Dark Shark kit plan available for $ 14.00. It is plan # 28494. It would be a simple matter to redraw the nose to make it the FR-1 Fireball. Also, the plan service guy can scale the drawing to any size you may want. The kit wingspan is 35 in.

I wouldn't bother trying to snag one off eBay. They don't show often and do go for a pretty dear price. Besides, the finished product weighs a ton. Better to scratch build.

Concerning the Consolidated kit, I did see one at the 1962 Glenview NATS but don't recall how it fared. There are published photos of XF2R-1's flown in Carrier but not necessarily ones from the kit.

Don't know about winning outright, but according to the listing of winners from the 1961 Willow Grove NATS published in the 1962 American Modeler Annual, Alfred Gonzales, Jr. placed 2nd in the Senior age division. The photo is from the Consolidated kit plan.
